Six riders banned on Caulfield Guineas day

Saturday 13 October 2018, 7:42pm

The stewards room became a revolving door following the last race on Caulfield Guineas day with six jockeys suspended.

All six have deferred their bans.

UK rider James Doyle was suspended for the second time in as many visits to Melbourne after being suspended for 10 meetings on Blair House in the Caulfield Stakes.

Doyle had earlier incurred a seven-meeting ban when riding Folkswood in the Naturalism Stakes at Caulfield on September 22.

He deferred his suspension until after commitments in the UK on Champions Day at Ascot next Saturday.

Craig Williams and Jordan Childs got off lightest with each suspended for seven meetings on careless riding charges following an incident near the 250m mark of the Debutant Stakes.

They will return in time for the Cox Plate meeting on October 27.

Ben Allen, aboard Night's Watch, and Jamie Mott, Humma Humma, were each suspended for 10 meetings starting after Caulfield Cup day commitments and returning on October 30.

Harshest hit was James McDonald, banned for 11 meetings following interference aboard Meryl in the Thoroughbred Club Stakes.

McDonald is still to confirm his Caulfield Cup mount and will return on October 31.

He was also reprimanded for his victory salute aboard The Autumn Sun in the Caulfield Guineas and for "overcooking" the easing down of Herbert Power Stakes winner Yucatan.
