Meet Mr Taylor breaks Eagle Farm record

Saturday 2 February 2019, 3:15pm

Speedy gelding Meet Mr Taylor maintained his unbeaten record in spectacular style, breaking the course record for 1000m at Eagle Farm.

Meet Mr Taylor ($1.80) made it five wins from five starts when he stopped the clock at 56.14 seconds in the Access Insulation Handicap.

The previous record was 56.55 seconds held by promising sprinter Awesome Pluck.

While it was only the third race meeting back on the new Eagle Farm track Meet Mr Taylor's time was exceptional for any racecourse.

Trainer Kelly Schweida said Meet Mr Taylor was unusual because he didn't like other horses coming near him.

"As you saw today once a horse comes near him he just takes off," Schweida said.

Schweida isn't sure which direction to head with Meet Mr Taylor.

"When they keep winning they can be easy to place. I am even thinking about Sydney but in the winter when all their good horses are up here and we can sneak down there," he said.

Winning jockey Mark Du Plessis said Meet Mr Taylor had plenty of scope and could go on to win a good race.
