Doomben improving for Group One meeting

Wednesday 8 May 2019, 1:18pm

Racetrack manager Jim Roberts is confident the Doomben 10,000 meeting on Saturday will be run on an improving surface.

The track was rated a soft 5 after 16mm of rain for the past week when acceptances were declared on Wednesday morning.

Roberts said the track was drying quickly and with clear weather forecast for the rest of the week, a good track rating on Saturday seemed certain.

"The previous two meetings we have had at Doomben were on heavy tracks," Roberts said.

"It drizzled all day Saturday but since then it has been fine and the track has come back very well.

"Being this time of the year the days are getting shorter and we have heavy dews but everything is positive for Saturday."
