Talented Xerri has not fulfilled hopes he would be a Golden Slipper horse but he did show plenty of potential with his win at Doomben.

Co-trainers Toby and Trent Edmonds have a high opinion of Xerri who is a $410,000 son of champion sire Snitzel.

They had entered him for the Golden Slipper on Saturday but scrapped the plans after Xerri was well-beaten at his first start last month.

Instead of being at Rosehill for the Slipper, Xerri found himself at Doomben in a QTIS Two-Year-Old (1200m).

Starting a $2.60 favourite Xerri, who is named after Cronulla NRL player Bronson Xerri, got home by a head to Doctor Jack ($16).

Xerri was slow to begin and after being trapped deep was ridden forward to be near the lead before holding on in the straight.

"He is still a colt and he is immature. There is no doubting his potential and he should be a lot stronger after a break," Trent Edmonds said.

The Edmonds partnership got a double when former Melbourne mare Thine Is The Power ($6) scored a win at her first Brisbane start.

"Four of them went mad up front and she got the right run behind them. She was sent up here because she couldn't win in Melbourne but she might win on a Saturday here," Edmonds said.

Apprentice Aiden Thompson continued his great run when he forfeited his 3kg claim with his 20th metropolitan win since January 18 on Fastnet Cyclone.

Previously trained by Richard Litt in Sydney, Fastnet Cyclone is now with Stuart Kendrick who thinks he will at his best on a wet track.

The meeting was run in line with federal government directions with no public and only trainers, jockeys, staff and media.

The jockeys room was extended, allowing jockeys to avoid contact.
