Hong Kong's loss is trainer Peter Hulbert's gain.

Hollywood Bound, the winner of Wednesday's Bollinger Plate (1350m) at Doomben, was once earmarked for a racing career in Hong Kong but, because of his small physique, those plans were abandoned.

"We spotted him at the jump-outs here one day, made some enquiries, and bought him," Hulbert said.

"He's still got a lot of growing to do and I think it'll take another preparation before he fully matures."

Hollywood Bound's dam Sutton Rarju is a half-sister to Razana, the mother of dual Hong Kong Group One winner Helene Mascot.

"I think he's a really good horse and you won't see the best of him until he steps up to 1800 metres," Hulbert said.

The gelding has been plagued by wet tracks for most of his career and Hulbert was concerned when Doomben was rated slow after overnight rain.

"Nearly every run he's had has been on wet tracks, apart from Caloundra last start which was bottomless," Hulbert said.

Meanwhile, Gold Coast trainer Marcus Wilson has a long-term goal in mind for Albert's Choice who won the SITA Australia Handicap (1350m).

"The race I'd like to win with him is the Inverell Cup in January," Wilson said.

"He's owned down there and it's also my home town."

Wilson praised the tough win of Albert's Choice who held off St Andrews to win by a head after a stirring battle in the straight.

"He's a tough horse that always puts in and he loves a dogfight," Wilson said.

"Every stable needs horses like him that can perform week-in and week-out."

A plunge on first starter Lauterbrunnen in the Ascend Sales Handicap (1030m) came unstuck in spectacular fashion when the gelding bucked at the 800-metre mark and was eased out of the race by jockey Bobby El-Issa.

Backed from $5 into $3.80, Lauterbrunnen will have to gain a clearance from stewards in a barrier trial before he is allowed to race again.
