Legendary Diva's daughter breaks through

Thursday 13 August 2020, 4:33pm

Sublime Diva displayed some of the staying characteristics of her famous mother Makybe Diva when she broke her maiden status at her sixth start at Sale.

The four-year-old, who is by sprinter Brazen Beau, became the three-time Melbourne Cup heroine's sixth winner from her eight foals to race.

So far, Makybe Diva is yet to throw a city winner with her best performed progeny being stakes placegetter Divanation.

Her filly by Written Tycoon sold for $500,000 at this year's Magic Millions Sales.

Last spring the 20-year-old mare had another filly foal by More Than Ready.

Sublime Diva's trainer Colin Little said the mare's best characteristic was her toughness.

"One thing she can do is stay. She could go another lap. I wish I had a stable full of horses with her constitution as she's so tough," Little said.

Also at Sale, jockey Clayton Douglas saddled up his first runner for a winner when Barocha scored by five lengths to win his debut in an 1105m maiden.

Barocha was the subject of a betting plunge having opened at $6 and starting at $1.70 and was ridden by Douglas' partner Jamie Kah.

Barocha accounted for 84 per cent of bets with TAB fixed odds.

He was also the subject of twitter discussion pre-race following a tweet that circulated spruiking his ability.
