Parlophone chasing hat-trick at Caulfield

Thursday 13 August 2020, 5:37pm

Michael Kent Junior believes Parlophone can continue her upward spiral and put her hand up as a possible Group One contender by winning the Quezette Stakes at Caulfield.

At her last start the Kent Junior and Mick Price trained three-year-old produced a withering finishing burst to win the Listed Lightning Stakes at Morphettville, coming from what seemed an unlikely position to win.

"She can do what only good horses can do, as Mick Price says. She can sustain a sprint for 600 metres," Kent Junior said.

"At her last start she was in an awkward spot but then she got to the outside and really flattened out nicely.

"We think she's come on again from that run. She's done dressage work since and that helps her relax.

"We've always know that she's always had above-average ability.

"She finished second to Personal, who is favourite for the Thousand Guineas at Flemington, in January and then she resumed and although she won only narrowly, it wasn't a day horses ran on to win.

"In the back of our minds she could be a Group One filly and a race like the Coolmore Stakes would be perfect for her.

"Along the way though, we might have a look at the Group One sprints as three-year-olds get into those races very nicely."

The Price and Kent Junior stable will also have Euphoric Summer in the Quezette Stakes (1100m) and they don't dismiss her chances.

"At her last start she had little luck behind Parlophone in Adelaide when she finished sixth," Kent Junior said.

"They work together and she beats her in gallops. (Jockey) Ben Melham was really pleased with her work this week. She'll run well and should be a good each-way chance."

The stable will be represented by Our Playboy in the Group Three Vain Stakes (1100m) for the colts and geldings.

"He's a work in progress. He's stepping up from a midweek win into a decent race," Kent Junior said.

"He's got a real will to win but has to overcome an awkward draw."
