Hyeronimus puts dramas aside to land win

Saturday 15 August 2020, 3:16pm

Embattled jockey Adam Hyeronimus has enjoyed a bright spot in a tough week with a Randwick victory aboard durable gelding Taikomochi.

Hyeronimus has been charged with a number of betting offences by Racing NSW stewards and faces a minium two-year ban.

Stewards are expected to issue Hyeronimus with a penalty this week but the jockey put the drama to one side on Saturday to take out the Premier's Cup Prelude (1800m) aboard Taikomochi.

Trained by Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott, Taikomochi ($3.60) led and had a slogging battle with runner-up Attention Run ($2.60 fav) for the length of the straight before prevailing by three-quarters of a length.

Bott said Hyeronimus had a great affinity with the seven-year-old, who will progress to the Premier's Cup (1900m) at Rosehill in two weeks ahead of next month's Wyong Cup (2100m).

"That was a fantastic ride, that was Adam Hyeronimus at his absolute best,'' Bott said.

"I don't think he (Taikomochi) has been going better. His three runs this campaign have been very good and we are aiming him at the Wyong Cup."
