Racegoers will be shut out of the popular Boxing Day meeting at Randwick as the industry responds to the COVID-19 outbreak in parts of the city.
The Australian Turf Club announced it will refund all pre-purchased general admission tickets for Saturday's Summer Cup program with only members and owners allowed to attend.
The move comes as NSW racing officials tighten restrictions in line with public health guidelines.
Jockeys and trainers will also be placed in small, isolated groups on course, as will key industry workers.
The ATC is scheduled to host further meetings at Randwick on January 9 and 23 when it hopes to re-open the course to the public, although any easing of restrictions will be dependant on government advice.
"The health and safety of racing participants, ATC staff and all of our customers are the number one priority and we have made these decisions in the interests of all of Sydney," ATC chief executive Jamie Barkley said.
