Irishman Paul Cave is enthusiastic about the chances of Bowery Breeze ,who is aiming for back-to-back wins, when she lines up in the Tab Handicap (1500m) at Randwick.
The Warwick Farm-based Cave, who is now in his fifth decade as a horse trainer, said Bowery Breeze had the potential to be a Group performer and he was expecting the mare to be competitive on Saturday.
At her last start Bowery Breeze, ridden by Kathy O'Hara, edged out Zing to win a Benchmark 72 event over 1600m in the wet at Randwick on Boxing Day and Cave said the horse had done very well since.
"She can be a little bit hot and wilful but I was very happy with her win last start," Cave said.
"I expect Kathy (O'Hara) will get back on her from the draw but she'll get through the going."
"Hopefully she can have the last crack at them."
Cave has had a long association with the family of Bowery Breeze, having trained her dam Manhattan Tempest, her grand-dam Triscay Stakes winner Golden Weekend and also her great grand-dam Opera Weekend.
"Manhattan Tempest had ability but she hurt herself in the barriers and was retired early and then early on Bowery Breeze went through a fence at a spelling farm," Cave said.
"I've got a younger half sister to her by Choisir who has already injured a tendon and suffered from colic, so we haven't had much luck with the family."
"But this one's got some ability and if she holds it together there's back type in her."
Bowery Breeze is $8 with TAB fixed-odds.
