The new Kensington track at Randwick has evoked favourable comparisons with surfaces associated with gentler sports than horse racing.
"Golf course" was the comment from champion jockey Jim Cassidy while Nathan Berry compared it to a bowling green and Hugh Bowman said it was up there with the best he had ridden on.
While pleased with the flattering comments, course curator Nevesh Ramdhani toned it down to say he was "very, very happy" with how it had come through it's first serious test of eight races on Monday.
The previous track was ripped up and re-laid with a StrathAyr surface similar but more advanced than Moonee Valley which has been down for many years.
"I think we're off to a great start," Ramdhani said.
"It's held together well, and with the density of the grass, any kickback is just grass, not soil.
"As we get into the summer months the grass will get thicker.
"It's a new surface. We're learning as we go along but we've got the basics right and the challenge is in fertilising and irrigating."
