Star mare Atlantic Jewel has one less rival to worry about in an already small Caulfield Stakes field after Green Moon was ruled out on Friday with an elevated temperature.
Atlantic Jewel was at $1.20 on Friday afternoon to bounce back to the winner's circle in the 2000m Group One race after being beaten for the first time in her 10 starts at Caulfield three weeks ago.
"The pressure is back on to get Atlantic Jewel back into the winner's circle," her trainer Mark Kavanagh said.
Atlantic Jewel is the Cox Plate favourite and can take a grip on the race with victory on Saturday in a field which has been reduced to five but includes her stablemate Super Cool and the Chris Waller-trained Makybe Diva Stakes winner Foreteller.
Kavanagh's hopes for Atlantic Jewel in the Caulfield Stakes are simple.
"I'm hoping she'll win. That's what I want to see," he said.
Atlantic Jewel was narrowly beaten by It's A Dundeel in the Underwood Stakes (1800m) last start, raising questions about her over 2000m in the best company.
"She has raced over 2000 metres before and has been a winner," Kavanagh said, referring to her seven length win as a three-year-old in the Wakeful Stakes.
"There is a question mark there, but if you get done a short half-head by It's A Dundeel at 1800 metres, I don't think that she's got a problem with the distance."
It's A Dundeel was taken out of the Caulfield Stakes early this week due to a foot abscess which interrupted his work.
Kavanagh says a decision will be made whether Super Cool lines up in Saturday week's Caulfield Cup after he contests the Caulfield Stakes.
He ran ninth in last Saturday's Turnbull Stakes and if he goes to the Caulfield Cup (2400m) it will mean racing three weeks in a row, something Kavanagh says is not beyond him.
"The trick with the spring time is to have your horse right on the day of the right race that you target, and we have our options open at this stage," Kavanagh said.
"There is a mile and a half handicap next Saturday which would mean three weeks in a row, but looking at the horse here today he may very well need the run tomorrow to bring him up to his peak.
"We'll have to let him tell us on Sunday whether that's the way he wants to go."
Super Cool is the $5.50 second favourite for Saturday's race.
