Cox Plate on hold for Foreteller

Sunday 13 October 2013, 4:47pm

A decision on a Cox Plate start for Foreteller is on hold with trainer Chris Waller in no hurry to commit him to Australia's weight-for-age showpiece.

Foreteller has been the star of Waller's Melbourne spring carnival advance party with a Group One victory over Puissance De Lune in the Makybe Diva Stakes and a second to Atlantic Jewel in the Caulfield Stakes.

He has had the Mackinnon Stakes a week after the Cox Plate as a target for some time but Waller will give Foreteller a look at the tricky Moonee Valley circuit before a final decision is made.

"He will gallop at Moonee Valley on the Tuesday before the Cox Plate and we'll see how he goes," Waller said.

"We won't make up our minds until after he has a go around the track but the Mackinnon has been the race we've been aiming him at."

The focus for Sydney's leading trainer shifts to Melbourne this week where he has a possible four runners in the Caulfield Cup including the reigning favourite Hawkspur and equal second elect Royal Descent along with Kelinni and Moriarty.

Epsom Handicap winner Boban is also scheduled to return to his former home state for the Group Three Moonga Stakes (1400m).

Glyn Schofield, who rode him to his Epsom win, will be reunited with Boban who is to carry 59.5kg under the set weights and penalties conditions.

Schofield is one jockey hoping topweight Green Moon stays in the field for the Caulfield Cup with his hand up to ride Royal Descent at 52.5kg if weights do not go up to Nash Rawiller's range.

He will also partner the Jason Coyle-trained Scream Machine in the Group Three David Jones Cup (2000m).

Scream Machine finished ninth in the Epsom, just 2-1/2 lengths behind Boban.
