Leading jockey Nash Rawiller will miss one of the biggest days of Australian racing on the back of a careless riding suspension from Wednesday's Warwick Farm meeting.
Rawiller was suspended for five meetings, ruling him out of Moonee Valley's Cox Plate day on October 26 and the Manikato Stakes meeting the night before.
After pleading not guilty, Rawiller changed his plea to guilty for causing interference on Hold Me Closer in the Warwick Farm Handicap.
In a bid to keep alive his chances of securing a Cox Plate ride, Rawiller requested stewards impose a monetary penalty while reducing the term of any suspension he might receive.
"I'm asking if I can throw myself at your feet for a fine and a four-day suspension," he told a stewards' panel chaired by Ray Livingstone.
"It's not about the money, it's about being there."
Rawiller's careless riding record - including six suspensions and seven reprimands over the past 12 months - weighed against him when it came to receiving some latitude in the stewards' room.
The suspension comes after Rawiller lost his best spring carnival mount last week when he was sacked as the rider of Melbourne Cup favourite Fiorente.
Rawiller, who won the Group One Toorak Handicap last Saturday, will start his ban on Sunday after he rides one of the leading chances, Royal Descent, in the $2.5 million Caulfield Cup.
He can resume riding on Sunday, October 27.
