It didn't take long for Michael Cahill to join the Oakleigh Girl fan club.

Cahill rode Oakleigh Girl for the first time in a trackwork hit-out on Tuesday and was left in no doubt she is a worthy favourite for the Magic Millions Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast on January 11.

"She's a professional type and a nice, calm filly which is a good sign for an early two-year-old," Cahill said.

"When I galloped her on Tuesday she just did pacework with an older companion and dashed up two furlongs.

"I gave her a squeeze inside the furlong and she did everything I expected her to. I think she's the real deal."

Oakleigh Girl cemented favouritism for the Millions with an explosive win at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day.

The strength of that form was confirmed when the fourth placegetter Golconda scored a runaway win in Listed company at Caulfield at her next start.

Trainer Dan Bougoure originally planned to run Oakleigh Girl in a barrier trial next week before deciding to start her in Saturday's Calaway Gal Stakes (1010m) at Doomben because the timing better suits her Millions program.

Oakleigh Girl was ridden at her first start by Craig Newitt who had already taken rides at Flemington, prompting Bougoure to book Cahill at Doomben.

Newitt is expected to be reunited with Oakleigh Girl in the Group Three BJ McLachlan Stakes (1200m) at Doomben on December 28, her final lead-up run before the Millions.

Oakleigh Girl has drawn perfectly in barrier three on Saturday and is a dominant $1.80 favourite.

The barrier draw wasn't as favourable for Cahill's mount in the Phelan Ready Stakes, Vienna Royale, who drew the outside alley in the 11-horse field.

The 1010-metre starting point at Doomben has been a graveyard for horses coming from wide barriers.

In the past three years only one horse has been successful from barrier 11.

Cahill said Vienna Royale, the $1.70 favourite, had the tactical speed to overcome the draw.
