It may have only been a Gawler Maiden but it may well prove the catalyst for confidence that was just needed for Distinctive Flyer (pictured above) to now start blossoming and confirm the promise that she had previously shown very early in her career when with Mick Price.
After an excellent first up 4th at Caulfield over 1 year ago behind Change Of Honour and Register beaten only 1 length she seemingly lost her way and was disappointing at her subsequent prep with her best effort being a second at Strathalbyn in September of last year and was moved to SA more for maturity reasons than anything else as we thought that she may tread water in VIC for a bit too long so given a nice spell and with Leon Macdonald and Andrew Gluyas given the opportunity to start a fresh with her it was extremely pleasing to see her win the way she did yesterday.
Given a peach of a ride by Jason “Stubby” Holder Distinctive Flyer was given the run of the race throughout with Jason pushing out from behind the leader on straightening to win very softly by a length and a half at the finish from Rain Attack. Jason was very pleased with her efforts and indicated to Leon that a rise in distance would not hurt the filly and accordingly it is our plan to next take that advice and head to Morphettville for her next assignment over 1300 meters in a couple of weeks’ time and see if we can’t now get some city form for this now valuable daughter of Flying Spur!
