BRISBANE February 21 AAP - Limited programming for up-and-coming three-year-olds has left Bruce Hill with little option but to run Casarati in Saturday company.
Although Casarati will be among the favourites for the Fujitsu General Handicap (1800m) at Eagle Farm and did perform well when third in a similar race two weeks ago, Hill would prefer he did not have take on open three-year-olds.
"If you win a midweek maiden with a three year old there is no where much to go," Hill said.
"You either take on Class 1 and 2 races against older horses where you get crushed by big weights or you go to town on a Saturday."
Hill said it did not give trainers the option of maturing their horses by bringing them through the classes.
Casarati has been racing well without winning since his maiden win at Ipswich six starts ago and Hill believes the 1800m of Saturday's race will suit.
Meanwhile, the trainer won't be tempted to try blinkers on Teronado when he tackles the Group One Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington on Saturday week.
Teronado put in an eye-catching run when fifth to Guineas favourite Hucklebuck in the CS Hayes Stakes (1400m) at Flemington last Saturday.
The son of Testa Rossa wore winkers and there will be no change to his gear for the Guineas.
"I have worked him in blinkers and I wasn't happy with the way he went. I have been saying it for a year once you see this horse at 1600 metres and further you will see something special," he said.
Craig Newitt is expected to retain the Guineas ride on Teronado.
