London Lolly in line for Sydney trip

Friday 14 March 2014, 9:34pm

A stakes win to London Lolly at Moonee Valley on Friday night is likely to have earned the filly a trip to Sydney for a Golden Slipper lead-up.

London Lolly, a daughter of Charge Forward out of Lovely Jubly, was able to control terms in front in the Listed St Albans Stakes (1200m) under jockey Glen Boss and the two-year-old was never headed after kicking strongly on the home turn.

She defeated Orujo ($4) by 1-1/4-lengths with the sentimental pick and race favourite Bring Me The Maid ($2.80) hitting the line well late to finish another three-quarters of a length away third.

Bring Me The Maid was part-owned by the late Roy Higgins who died last weekend and was given a public funeral at Flemington racecourse on Thursday.

London Lolly ($15) was having her third start and with a valuable stakes win in the bag, co-trainer Wayne Hawkes said the youngster was in line to head north.

"She might have earned a trip to Sydney for something like the Magic Night Stakes," Hawkes said.

"Things fell into place today. She jumped and led, they sat off her and the rest is history.

"We won the first race on Thursday at Geelong with Chautauqua who is her older half-brother so we've had a good couple of days with Lovely Jubly and now this one is a stakes winner."
