Champion sprinter Lankan Rupee is still four weeks away from his highly anticipated return but trainer Mick Price is ready to unveil a few of his other spring carnival aspirants.
Price has Group One-placed colts Jabali and Cornrow resuming in Saturday's Vain Stakes and they will be joined in the 1100m race by Moonee Valley winner Nordic Empire.
Both Jabali and Cornrow are maidens but the two were multiple stakes placegetters during their juvenile season.
Jabali was second to Earthquake in the Group One Blue Diamond while Cornrow was third in the Blue Diamond and Sires' Produce Stakes.
"Jabali will have blinkers off and winkers on (on Saturday). He will be keen and run very well," Price said.
"Cornrow will probably need the run.
"Nordic Empire will be the fittest of the three and it will be interesting to see how he goes in the better grade."
Damien Oliver has the ride on Jabali and Chad Schofield partners Cornrow.
Craig Newitt rode Nordic Empire to a convincing win at Moonee Valley last Saturday week in a benchmark race and retains the ride.
Cornrow has recovered from a cold which kept him from jump-outs at Caulfield last week.
"He is the grosser of the three but he worked well on Saturday morning and he'll take his place," Price said.
Jabali and Cornrow's first Group One spring target is the Golden Rose (1400m) at Rosehill third-up after the Vain and McNeil Stakes.
Price said Nordic Empire, winner of two of his three starts, was unlikely to go to the Golden Rose because he had the colt pegged as a sprinter.
The trainer will give unbeaten filly Royal Snitzel her chance to snare a black type win in the Quezette Stakes.
Royal Snitzel won on debut at Donald before adding a city win at Caulfield on July 5 and Price said she was in in great order.
The Caulfield program features the Group Two P B Lawrence Stakes, where the Darren Weir-trained Puissance De Lune makes his comeback.
The Peter Moody-trained multiple Group One winner Moment Of Change kicks off his campaign in the Regal Roller Stakes (1200m).
Meanwhile, Lankan Rupee is continuing to please Price building up to his McEwen Stakes return at Moonee Valley on September 6.
"He's on target for September 6 and will trial on Tuesday week at the Caulfield jump-outs," Price said.
Lankan Rupee is the world's highest-rated sprinter and will build towards a clash with Irish horse Slade Power at Flemington before a possible trip to Hong Kong.
