Veteran trainer John Wallace put the icing on a memorable week when he renewed his association with jockey Chris Munce to win at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Munce steered Wallace's mare Shapin Lady ($6) along the fence on a bog track to win the Trade Coast Legal Handicap (1000m).
Wallace and Munce were one of the most successful combinations in Queensland racing in the early 1990s, in particular with the stayer Oompala who won the 1994 Ipswich Cup, Caloundra Cup and Newcastle Cup.
It was a big week for Wallace who was inducted into the Gold Coast Racing Hall of Fame on Wednesday night.
"I honestly can't remember the last time Chris rode for me in the city. I think it was Oompala 20 years ago," Wallace said.
Shapin Lady was beaten at odds-on first-up at the Gold Coast but Wallace said she raced in the wrong part of the track.
"She hadn't handled the wet previously but I reckon she was in the best part of the track today," he said.
Meanwhile, three-year-old Top Tone confirmed his sire Clang as one of the best wet-track stallions in Australia when he won the CBS Air Conditioning Handicap (1600m).
Clang has produced a string of mudlarks and Top Tone never put a foot wrong in leading all the way.
Trainer Lorraine Erhart will now spell Top Tone who has won three of his six starts.
