Soundness issues have stopped Good Value from fulfilling his racetrack potential but he returned to the winner's circle for the first time in 21 months on Saturday.
Good Value was having his third run back from a long break and raced clear in the straight after enjoying a perfect box-seat run in the Beveridge Williams Plate (1600m) at Caulfield.
Trainer Mick Kent said Good Value probably had stakes-class potential if not for his injury setbacks.
Ridden by Michael Walker, Good Value ($9) tracked the leader Loot `N' Run to the home turn before passing him from the top of the straight and then extending.
The eight-year-old had 4-1/2 lengths to spare over Lord Of Brazil with Morant a short head away third.
Walker said the gelding had benefited from his two runs back from a spell and was spot on for Saturday's assignment.
"Mick trialled him over 1200 (metres) at Cranbourne (since his last run) and he was spot on today and always going to be hard to beat," Walker said.
