Entirely Platinum is a gilt-edged winner

Saturday 16 August 2014, 4:41pm

The Hawkes camp has taken a conservative approach with Entirely Platinum's career so far but the five-year-old is ready to hit the big time this spring.

Co-trainer Michael Hawkes could not stop smiling after the Caulfield Cup-bound Entirely Platinum began his campaign with strong win over 1400m at Rosehill on Saturday.

Punters were as confident as connections, sending him out at $1.70 and he ran within himself to beat Mighty Lucky ($41) by half a length.

"He is a lovely horse going forward," Hawkes said.

"It will be one race at a time with him but he so exciting.

"The owners have been very patient and he has a long campaign ahead with the Caulfield Cup his goal."

The win was Entirely Platinum's sixth from 13 starts. He emerged as a Caulfield Cup hope with his victory in the Group Three Sky High Stakes (2000m) in the autumn before his close fourth in the Neville Selwood (1900m).

Hawkes said the Premier's Cup (1800m) in two weeks was likely to be the gelding's next start.
