Three days after winning the Vain Stakes in Melbourne, Adelaide jockey Joe Bowditch has broken his leg in a trackwork accident.
Trainer Lloyd Kennewell said Bowditch broke both the tibia and fibula when a horse he was schooling at Morphettville for another trainer ducked left after clearing a jump and threw him to the turf.
He said he expected the jockey to have surgery either on Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday.
Bowditch won the Vain Stakes on promising Get The Nod at Caulfield on Saturday.
Get The Nod headlines a promising team of horses Kennewell has for the Melbourne carnival.
"It's a kick in the guts," Kennewell said about his friend's injury which will rule him out of the spring.
