Gordon Lord Byron second in Ireland

Gordon Lord Byron has been narrowly beaten in the Renaissance Stakes at the Curragh, his lead-up to his defence of the Sprint Cup at Haydock.

Jamesie edged the international Group One winner by a nose in what was the runner-up's first appearance since he suffered a back injury in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot in June.

Trained by Tom Hogan, Gordon Lord Byron counts the George Ryder Stakes in Sydney during the autumn among his Group One triumphs.

The Haydock Sprint is on September 6 with Hogan keen to explore several more overseas options including the Hong Kong International meeting in December.
