John Sadler fined $1000 for misconduct

Tuesday 26 August 2014, 5:46pm

Trainer John Sadler has been fined $1000 after pleading guilty to a charge of misconduct following an incident with fellow trainer Wayne Hawkes at Moonee Valley.

A stewards' inquiry continued on Tuesday after it was opened at the Moonee Valley race meeting on Saturday when Hawkes made a complaint about Sadler allegedly giving him a "hip and shoulder" near the mounting yard after the third event.

Chief steward Terry Bailey said it was established that at least some contact was made along with a level of unsavoury language so a misconduct charge was issued to Sadler.

Sadler asked if his fine could be paid to a charity of his choice.

While Bailey said stewards didn't have the power to do that, he told the trainer he thought an application to Racing Victoria's chief executive to have the fine donated to charity would be looked on favourably.
