New Arrowfield stud master Paul Messara will put on his trainer's hat when Panzer Division attempts to qualify for a Golden Rose start at Randwick on Saturday.
Messara recently announced he would scale back his training operation to take up the role at his family's stud.
It's a situation he is relishing.
"I'm really enjoying the challenge, although obviously it's pretty busy," Messara said.
No doubt his hectic schedule is tempered by the fact two of the horses still on his books have stamped themselves as genuine spring carnival chances.
Scissor Kick, undefeated in two stakes starts this campaign, is $15 for the Golden Rose and if Panzer Division wins Saturday's Ming Dynasty Quality he could join his stablemate in the $1 million race.
"At the moment he is borderline to get into the Golden Rose on prize money," Messara said.
"If he ran a super race on Saturday we would give consideration to backing him up.
"But my primary blueprint was always to head towards the Spring Champion Stakes."
Panzer Division finished the narrowest of seconds to Scissor Kick in the Up And Coming Stakes, a race marred by the erratic Liberation who hampered several rivals.
Messara's pair avoided the dramas but the trainer says that should not diminish their performances on an unsuitable wet track.
"I understand about the wayward horse but the two I had in it, neither enjoyed the track at all, particularly Panzer Division," he said.
"I'm hoping the track dries out and we get better ground. If we do this horse will improve again."
