Luke Griffith has joined a fast-growing list of trainers to predict a bright future in the saddle for Winona Costin after bush mare Bouzy Rouge won the Mona Lisa Stakes at Wyong.
Costin produced a riding display well beyond her years as Bouzy Rouge came from the back of the field to win Friday's 1350m Listed race for fillies and mares.
Indentured to Gai Waterhouse, Costin saved ground in the centre of the field while other jockeys wanted to take their mounts wider on the track from the 600m.
An even move decisive and confident move came at the 150m and it paved the way for Costin to register her most important victory.
Costin had to ease Bouzy Rouge across the heels of the leaders but once the Scone-trained mare found proper running room, she finished over the top of Angel Bee to win by 1-1/4 lengths.
The leader I'm In The Money held on to finish a head away third.
"Now that Winona is with Gai Waterhouse I think she will make it all the way to the top," Griffith said.
Costin said once a gap appeared for her in the straight she was confident Bouzy Rouge's acceleration would do the rest.
"I was confident that once she saw daylight that she would win," she said.
"I'm very excited. This is my biggest win."
