Caveka has bounced back from a luckless run in stakes company to show his class at Moonee Valley.
Trained by Peter Moody, Caveka emerged from the Mitchell McKenzie Stakes two weeks ago as a clear hardluck runner in the race.
But helped by a step up in distance in Saturday's City Jeep Handicap as well as jockey Luke Nolen's determination to make sure the gelding wasn't going to be locked away, Caveka scored decisively.
Caveka, favourite at $3.30, defeated War Point ($6.50) by 1-1/4 lengths with Lotion ($10) a long head away.
A winner of two of his three starts, Caveka is nominated for the Caulfield Guineas but Moody unsure if he will get that far into the spring.
Instead, The Stutt Stakes on September 26 is in Moody's sights.
"It was a good effort for a horse that didn't get a lot of fitness benefit off his last run. He's made a long, sustained run and ran through the line," Moody said.
"He'll come back for the Stutt Stakes and hopefully he can get the job done again."
