GOLDEN ROSE - WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
HISTORY: Run over 1400m, the Golden Rose was first held in 2003 and it didn't take long for its importance to be recognised with elevation to Group One status in 2009.
NOTABLE WINNERS: Forensics (2008), Denman (2009) and Zoustar (2013).
TALKING POINTS:
* Forensics is the only filly to win the race. Her victory came during the autumn after the 2007 Sydney spring was called off because of equine influenza.
* Peter Snowden has trained three winners - Forensics (2008), Denman (2009) and Epaulette (2012). In his first full season in a training partnership with his son Paul, Snowden will be represented by Shooting To Win.
GOLDEN ROSE - RACE ANALYSIS
PATTERN OF THE RACE: Expect the early speed to be provided by Almalad, Sniper Fire and Ygritte. Better Land and Nostradamus have enough speed to secure good trails. Bring Me The Maid usually drops out and runs on but there will be no surprises if she settles closer to the lead.
FANCIED RUNNERS: Bring Me The Maid is a Golden Slipper placegetter who resumed on a heavy track to win the Silver Shadow Stakes. She will be trying to become the first filly to win the race since it became a Group One. Hallowed Crown is unbeaten but his three wins have been in soft going. The colt has a wide draw but it might not be a disadvantage if the track is wet. Sarajevo improves on better ground.
BEST OF THE OUTSIDERS: Godolphin has two runners in Kumaon and Sarajevo and both appeal as better chances than their early quote gives them credit for. Kumaon ran on strongly to finish second in the Run To The Rose with Sarajevo in fourth. Sarajevo wasn't happy in the going last time. Sniper Fire deserves a mention because he is trained by Chris Waller.
