Husson Eagle as a yearling
I must say it was more a relief than anything else when Husson Eagle blew his opposition away to win his maiden at Bendigo on Wednesday. He has always displayed well above average ability and looks set to have a nice preparation. His three 2nd placings as a two years old were full of merit and he competed against some of the best horses in training.
Husson Eagle was aided by a superb ride from Michael Rodd and an excellent training performance from Patrick Payne.
Patrick is a really good trainer who puts a lot of thought into where he places his horses and the results he is achieving are very good given the size of his team. Patrick is currently in 7th place on the Victorian Trainers Premiership with a very good strike rate.
As you know I have been pushing Husson for some time and the first two I have had race are Husson Eagle and Raido which have both won since the start of the season. I have a Husson filly named Arrayanes that is set to have her first run tomorrow at Echuca. It will be interesting to see how she runs although she has a tricky barrier to deal with. I note Tony Gollan’s smart Husson three years old gelding Looks Like The Cat is running in the Group 2 Danehill Stakes. It will probably be too short for him but he is a good galloper.
I also have a really nice two years old filly with John Thompson named Ankara Lass which is being aimed at the Magic Millions in January. Recently I purchased two yearlings by Husson direct from Patinack Farm and I am thrilled I did as the sales from the farm were closed off a week later. I inspected quite a big selection of yearlings at Patinack and had the pick of the ones I inspected. In my opinion the two I got were the standouts.
These two yearlings are from Danehill line mares which is the best cross with Husson.
Tony McEvoy gets the colt out of Blonde Mafia and Charlie Goggin and Leuella Meaburn get the filly out of Senro Kisaki.
ON THE TRACK
We didn’t have many runners this week with the highlight being Husson Eagle’s great win at Bendigo. Faith’n’Courage was so unlucky at Doomben. I thought she had won as did the race caller but unfortunately she was beaten by an inch in a bobbing finish.
We have a busy few days ahead with Sweet Talkin Woman ling up at Rosehill, Terra Amata and Hijack Hussy at Doomben and Arrayanes and Maraska at Echuca on Saturday.
Poussin is set to run at Benalla on Tuesday. She doesn’t help herself by pulling too hard in her races and should have won her past two starts.
I’m heading to Echuca for Saturday and will inspect the horses we have at Lindsay Park Euroa on the way home.
PEDIGREE UPDATE
The Magic Albert out of Molly rocks filly I am sending to Kris Lees has had several pedigree updates since I purchased her. On Wednesday her ½ brother and only other foal out of Molly Rocks won very impressively at Stathalbyn. He was the only three years old in the race and stated $1.40 favourite. At his only other start he was placed 2nd at Morphettville in Saturday company and may head to Melbourne during the carnival.
On the same day jump outs were held at Randwick and a two year old filly out of Speedy Bell, 2nd dam by Not A Single Doubt is reported to have gone very well. This follows up Silverstream’s ($320,000 yearling) out of Speedy Bell win on debut in Perth recently.
Another filly out of Speedy Natalie (Molly Rocks ½ sister) named Sweet And Speedy was second on debut and then won impressively before being placed at Group 3 level.
I have just 2 shares left in the filly. More information is available on this outstanding filly later in the newsletter. I have paid her up for the rich Magic Millions Series and also for BOBS. Kris Lees has given her a preparation and is very pleased with her.
SYDNEY WEATHER
The Sydney weather has really been ordinary and a word of warning that we could see bit form reversals as the tracks start to dry out. It hasn’t been easy for the trainers with the wet weather causing havoc with meetings being run on bottomless tracks, race meetings cancelled and barrier trials being put back.
