Import He's Your Man emerged as a major carnival contender while the spring credentials of La Amistad and Greatwood suffered blows in Saturday's Kingston Town Stakes at Rosehill.
He's Your Man became the latest member of trainer Chris Waller's team to earn consideration for Group One races this spring when he dashed away from a talented field to win the Group Three 2000-metre race.
Victorious in the Winter Challenge, He's Your Man was a last-start third to Greatwood on a heavy track and appreciated firmer footing on Saturday.
"I knew today would be D-day as to whether he could go to the next level," Waller said.
"Now we've got to work out if he's a 2000-metre horse to miler, or a 2400-metre horse."
"That will determine where he goes."
A two-time winner over 2400m in France, He's Your Man will either step up to that trip in the Metropolitan or head to Melbourne for the Turnbull Stakes and a possible Caulfield Cup campaign.
The six-year-old's win capped a great weekend for part-owner Neil Werrett who also has a stake in first-time mum Black Caviar who foaled an Exceed And Excel filly on Friday.
He's Your Man is raced in similar interests to Reliable Man who was injured during his brilliant Group One Queen Elizabeth Stakes victory last year and retired.
His success inspired connections to race another import with the premier trainer.
"That's the beauty of having a bit of success, it opens many doors on the world stage. People see it," Waller said.
Makybe Diva's half-sister La Amistad started favourite but after racing just off the speed she struggled to sprint with the field and finished seventh.
Greatwood took up the running and kicked on the turn but tired quickly in the run home.
His jockey Tommy Berry said the horse was disappointing and may be better suited on a wet track.
He's Your Man ($4.80) scored by 1-1/4 lengths over Kingdoms ($21) with the Metropolitan-bound Deane Martin ($61) third.
