Kerrin McEvoy's first winner as a freelance jockey could come out of the stable he has just split from after six years as its No.1 rider.
That is a genuine scenario confronting McEvoy when he turns up to ride as a free agent at Canterbury on Wednesday.
McEvoy announced on Tuesday he had stepped down as a Godolphin stable jockey, ending an 11-year association with Sheikh Mohammed.
But he believes there will be opportunities to pick up work from Godolphin as he plans to keep riding in Sydney.
"It's only early days in this decision and I've got some rides for Godolphin this week and then I'm sure the picture will become a little bit clearer heading on to next week," McEvoy said.
"There's nothing to stop Godolphin from booking me for rides in the future and I'll be happy to take rides."
He will take the seat on two Godolphin runners at Canterbury - Mohave in the TAB Early Quaddie Handicap (1250m) and Gouldian in the More Than Ready Plate (1550m).
Mohave will clash with stablemate Segregation, a James McDonald ride which was a Caulfield winner at his only start in May.
Also first-up as a three-year-old, Mohave trained off during the latter part of his juvenile season with three unplaced runs during the Brisbane winter carnival.
But the early part of his career was full of promise with a Breeders' Plate placing at Randwick and a victory in a Blue Diamond Stakes lead-up race.
Unbeaten Deep Field will be the shortest-priced favourite at the midweek meeting as the Hawkes Racing sprinter goes for his third win in the Hyland Race Colours Handicap (1100m).
Deep Field has won both of his starts by a combined margin of more than 14 lengths.
And despite the Hawkes team keeping it typically low-key, the four-year-old's nomination for the $1 million Darley Classic during the Melbourne Cup carnival gives an insight into the horse's potential.
McDonald will ride Deep Field for the first time, taking over from Melbourne-based rider Dwyane Dunn who was on board for the entire's Gosford and Canterbury wins during the winter.
