Hoof problem for top sprinter Lankan Rupee

Thursday 2 October 2014, 4:12pm

Star sprinter Lankan Rupee is being treated for a problem to his off-fore hoof.

A quarter crack was detected earlier in the week, ruling the gelding out of the Group Two Schillaci Stakes (1000m) at Caulfield on October 11.

Trainer Mick Price told racing.com that he suspected the problem stemmed from a foot abscess the gelding suffered before commencing his spring campaign.

He said the problem would have had no bearing on his defeat at the hands of Buffering in the Group One Moir Stakes over 1200m at Moonee Valley on September 26.

With the Schillaci Stakes being ruled out, Lankan Rupee is set to have his next start in the Group One Manikato Stakes (1200m) at Moonee Valley on October 24.

Racing Victoria stewards have issued an update that Lankan Rupee will race in three-quarter plates in the Manikato Stakes.
