Brazen Beau on Coolmore Stud Stakes path

Saturday 4 October 2014, 2:57pm

Brazen Beau's spring campaign is back on track with the colt dominating the Roman Consul Stakes at Randwick and earning high praise from international jockey Joao Moreira.

The Chris Waller-trained Brazen Beau finished fifth as favourite in the Danehill Stakes at Flemington last start after an interrupted campaign.

Runner-up to Almalad in the Group One J J Atkins in June, Brazen Beau's three-year-old debut was delayed by wet tracks in Sydney and he failed to make it to the Golden Rose.

The Coolmore Stud Stakes is his Group One mission as he bids to emulate former stablemate Zoustar, winner of the 2013 Group Two Roman Consul (1200m) before taking out the Coolmore.

"Good horses like him make jockeys like me look good," Moreira said as he brought up a race-to-race double after Hampton Court's Dulcify Quality win.

"He is a horse with a good turn of foot and he got there pretty easily and pulled up feeling so good in himself."

Brazen Beau ($3.40) cruised up to the leaders inside the final 200 metres of Saturday's race and strode clear to beat Nostradamus ($5) by 1-3/4 lengths.

Golden Rose winner Hallowed Crown was sent out the $2.80 favourite but after being cluttered up on the rail, could only manage to run fourth.

"He is a very professional horse with a great constitution," Waller said.

"He has had the experience of the straight at Flemington ahead of the Coolmore even though he didn't win."

Co-trainer James Cummings said Hallowed Crown would continue to the Coolmore Stud Stakes on November 1 as long as he pulled up well.

"The moment the draws came out we knew we would have rathered draw outside than in," Cummings said.

"We shouldn't be panicking about it. He's probably run quite good sectionals without having seen it.

"He's run well and he wasn't beaten far."
