Estonian Princess on trial for Gr1 Myer

Thursday 9 October 2014, 2:24pm

Estonian Princess' spring has been timed to have her right for the Angst Stakes but plans for the mare could become even bolder if she runs to expectations in the Group Three race.

"The Angst is the race we have set her for so she goes into Saturday's race at her top now," trainer Scott Asprey said.

With a JHB Carr Stakes win and almost $350,000 in earnings, Estonian Princess is the best horse in Asprey's Warwick Farm stable.

By the end of the Melbourne Cup carnival, she could be something even more meaningful to the young trainer who worked under John O'Shea before setting up his own stable.

Asprey has the only Group One race for mares' during the four days of Flemington in his sights.

"Hopefully she can kick a goal at Randwick and then we'll head to Melbourne for the Myer Classic," he said.

"But she has to run well to justify the expense to the owners."

Estonian Princess has raced twice this campaign and Asprey said it didn't help that she had to make a long, wide run before finishing worse than midfield in the Golden Pendant.

Asprey has called on Brenton Avdulla for only the second time in the mare's 17-start career.

They got on famously the first time when Avdulla brought her through the middle of the pack to beat Northern Glory in the Group Three Carr Stakes.
