Originally disappointed with I'm All The Talk's last-start second, trainer Gary Portelli will give him his chance against boom horse Deep Field at Randwick.

Portelli was looking at giving the four-year-old a spell after he was beaten by That's A Good Idea in a 1000m sprint on Randwick's Kensington track last Monday.

The horse's second to Manikato Stakes-bound Terravista in the Group Two Shorts had Portelli confident he could mix it with the best but he admitted that confidence wavered.

"I was looking at maybe giving him a spell but he has surprised me how well he has come through that run so we will give him his chance in the Lightning Stakes," Portelli said.

"It's a quality handicap so he won't be carrying 61 kilos."

The Listed Lightning (1100m) is one of four stakes races on Saturday's City Tattersalls program at Randwick.

The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained That's A Good Idea will be among the challengers to the unbeaten Deep Field trained by the Hawkes family partnership.

The Group Two Yellowglen (1200m) at Flemington during the Melbourne Cup carnival is a target for That's A Good Idea while the bar might be a little higher for Deep Field.

The four-year-old has won his three starts by a combined 20 lengths for former Racing NSW chairman Alan Bell and Malaysian businessman Ananda Krishnan.

He is the elder brother of the Snowden-trained Shooting To Win who raised the value of the family with his win in Saturday's Group One Caulfield Guineas.

Brenton Avdulla, who rode I'm All The Talk at Randwick, has snared the ride on Deep Field in the Lightning.

Deep Field holds an entry to the Group One Darley Classic at Flemington against the world's best Lankan Rupee and Slade Power.

The race on November 8 will be Irish horse Slade Power's last start before he is retired to the sponsor's stud.
