Bring Something gives Keys a Caulfield win

Wednesday 15 October 2014, 4:56pm

Trainer Ken Keys has cheered home a winner at this year's Caulfield Cup carnival - even if it wasn't in the $1 million feature he craved.

Keys had raging favourite Rich Enuff in last Saturday's Caulfield Guineas as he chased his first Group One win as a trainer, but the colt was narrowly beaten in a brave performance behind Shooting To Win after racing too keenly on the speed.

The trainer was back at Caulfield on Wednesday when four-year-old Bring Something confirmed plans to head to the Bendigo Cup with a win in the $80,000 Jordans Cereal Bowl (2400m).

Keys said Wednesday's win by a long neck over Amaverde should boost Bring Something's rating enough to ensure he gets a start in the Bendigo Cup in two weeks and he also believes the stayer is still on the improve.

"He's 12 months away from where we ultimately think he can get to," Keys said.

"We did dream of the Caulfield Cup this year but he just wasn't ready."

Keys said stable star Rich Enuff would be freshened up and run in the Group One Coolmore Stud Stakes (1200m) on November 1 at Flemington after coming through his tough Guineas performance surprisingly well.

"If he was flat as a tack we wouldn't have even considered it," Keys said.

"But he ate up that night. I couldn't believe it. It's easy now that he's pulled up that good. We can just be easy with him."

Keys also has last-start Listed winner Like A Carousel aimed at the Geelong Cup next Wednesday in the hope he can win and earn a weight penalty to secure a dream Melbourne Cup berth.
