Dunn eyeing off Millions spot with Madotti

Friday 17 October 2014, 1:53pm

A win by two-year-old filly Madotti at Doomben will take some of the pressure off trainer Matt Dunn as he plots a path to the rich Magic Millions.

An impressive Deagon barrier trial winner, Madotti was a $6 chance in early betting for her debut at the Gold Coast two weeks ago but drifted to $13.

Nevertheless she ran a great race to finish second behind early season boom filly Frequendly.

"I have no idea why she blew in the betting like that as a couple of the owners had a fair go each-way on her," Dunn said.

"Maybe the fact there were only three against her in the trial influenced a few and the winner was well backed."

"But it was a very good run and she is a tough little thing. I had four runners that day and she was the only one which really ate up when we got home.

"I think if she wins on Saturday that would be enough money to get her into the Magic Millions Classic. It means we could give her short break and plot our way from there."

Madotti, who has the inside barrier, is the TAB's second favourite for Saturday's 1050-metre two-year-old race with the Liam Birchley-trained first starter Faint Blaze heading the market despite not having been seen at an official trial.

Dunn, who trains at Murwillumbah in northern NSW, divides his horses between the two states but Londehero who resumes in an 1110-metre Class 6 at Doomben, is likely to do most of his racing in Brisbane in the near future.

"With the way the prize money has gone up here I think he will be staying in Brisbane races. He is the type of horse who could win three this campaign," Dunn said.
