Tommy Berry wins Seymour Cup

Sunday 19 October 2014, 7:09pm

Star Sydney jockey Tommy Berry has made a rare, and successful, visit to country Victoria to win the Seymour Cup on Bel Thor.

Berry got a call from trainer Wez Hunter asking him to ride Bel Thor in Sunday's $150,000 Listed Cup (1600m) and he travelled to the track for the one ride.

Berry settled Bel Thor ($8.50) midfield then steered him along the rail in the straight to catch Our Hand Of Faith ($2.90) and beat the favourite by a long neck.

"It was great to get the late call-up from Wez," Berry told TVN.

"I've watched him for a long time. He's a trainer who's going onwards and upwards.

"You can see that by how big his stable's getting so it's a real pleasure to come and ride for him today."

Berry will be back in the swing of the Melbourne carnival this week and has been booked for Crackerjack King if he gains a start in the Cox Plate.
