Full field of 14 for Cox Plate

Tuesday 21 October 2014, 9:20am

Mourinho and Chivalry have been left out of the field of 14 for the Cox Plate.

There were 16 final acceptances for Saturday's weight-for-age championship with the club's committee deciding the make-up of the field which has a capacity of 14.

MVRC chairman Bob Scarborough said it was a difficult decision with non-Group One winning three-year-olds Sweynesse and Wandjina making the cut.

Connections of Cranbourne Cup winner Mourinho paid the late entry fee in the hope he would get a run.

"Mourinho has never run in a Group One race and we did not believe he rated a run," Scarborough said.

Chivalry finished fifth in the Caulfield Guineas, two places behind Wandjina.
