Toowoomba trainer Steve Tregea hopes Love Rocks won't be weighted out of Queensland racing if he wins first-up at Doomben.

Love Rocks will be having his first start since winning the Listed Lough Neagh Stakes in December when he tackles the Caitlin Forrest Memorial Handicap (1110m) on Saturday.

The gelding has off-set knees, forcing Tregea to nurse him through a career which has resulted in four wins and more than $200,000 in prize money.

Love Rocks showed he had lost none of his speed during his long break when he won a barrier trial at Toowoomba by five lengths on October 16.

The trial field included smart mare Tukiyo but Love Rocks made her look second rate.

Jockey Anthony Allen made the trip to Toowoomba to ride Love Rocks but he will be replaced by apprentice James Orman at Doomben.

Orman's 3kg allowance will reduce Love Rocks's weight from 62.5kg to 59.5kg but Tregea is still worried about the impost.

"We had no choice but to claim. He is getting hard to place now his rating has shot up so much," Tregea said.

"I asked what he would get if he won on Saturday and they said he might get as much as another two kilos. He is not the sort of horse who really want to travel interstate.

"And he is not the sort of horse you want to send away to another trainer after we have nursed him along. I hope he doesn't get weighted out of racing here."

Love Rocks will be aimed towards the summer sprint races, the George Moore Stakes and Lough Neagh Stakes in December.

Tregea is hoping Love Rocks can reproduce last year's Lough Neagh Stakes win when he ran 1min.17.4secs for the 1350m at Doomben.

It was the second fastest 1350m run at Doomben. confirmed Love Rocks liking for the track with three wins in five starts.
