Veteran Monton leads Quinton Rosehill trio

Wednesday 22 October 2014, 3:16pm

Monton might be nearing veteran status but he will head to Rosehill on Saturday boasting arguably the best recent formlines of any other horse at the meeting.

The eight-year-old's past four runs have included a fourth to Group One Manikato Stakes favourite Terravista and a fifth to Caulfield Cup runner-up Lucia Valentina.

But he might not have escaped facing another Group One-class rival on Saturday.

Among his opponents in the Sydney Markets Filante Handicap is his last-start conqueror Aomen who has been slated for a berth in the Group One Emirates Stakes during the Melbourne Cup carnival.

"His first two runs back were absolutely excellent. His third run was a tad disappointing but he bounced back to good form the other day in lesser grade," trainer Ron Quinton said of Monton.

Monton will spearhead a team of three for Quinton and all present as live chances.

Boss Lane will chase his third successive win in the Men Of League Handicap with Quinton banking on the horse's gate speed to help overcome a wide draw.

Intimate Moment will contest the Alpha Flight Services Handicap and Quinton expects the mare to relish a distance rise to 2000m.

If she performs to expectations she could earn a start in the Group Two Matriarch Stakes at Flemington November 8.

A Group Three winner during the autumn, Intimate Moment finished worse than midfield in the Angst Stakes last start but Quinton said the tempo of that race disadvantaged his mare.

"She is only just getting back to her right trip," Quinton said.

"It was a slowly run race the other day at a mile and that was her first time back to any sort of distance that might suit her but they just walked.

"I'm really looking forward to Saturday with her."

Apprentice Taylor Marshall rides the trio.
