Jockey Brad Stewart continued his red-hot form but had to survive a protest before winning on first starter Stay In Vegas at Ipswich on Wednesday.
It was Stewart's eighth winner for the month and his 18th overall for the season.
Stewart, who had only the one ride at Ipswich, has a 25 per cent winning strike-rate for the season, one of the best best in Australia.
"Things have been going OK and I have been riding everywhere from Rockhampton to Doomben," Stewart said.
Stay In Vegas ($2.20) became the second former expensive purchase by top sire Encosta De Lago to win at Ipswich after Sport of Kings took out the first race.
The three-year-old is now raced by clients of Eagle Farm trainer Lawrie Mayfield Smith and he won two barrier trials at Deagon in the lead-up to the Jim McKenzie Memorial Handicap (1200m).
Correct weight was delayed when Anthony Allen on runner-up Zaracha protested, alleging Stay In Vegas had interfered with him between the 400m and 200m.
However, stewards threw out the protest because the margin of 2-3/4 lengths was too great to alter the positions. Mayfield Smith will now look at stepping Stay In Vegas to Saturday-class races.
Another promising three-year-old Buckin' The Blues ($3.60) broke his maiden status.
Trainer Matt Dunn has a big opinion of Buckin' The Blues who finished midfield at his only other start behind smart filly Hijack Hussy in a Saturday race two weeks ago.
"He trialled well leading into the those races and he dropped a lot in class today," Dunn said.
Trainer Kevin Kemp had a welcome change of luck in metropolitan races when another promising three-year-old Jack Be Quick won the McPherson Repairs Handicap (1200m).
