CARRICK-ON-SUIR, Ireland, Oct 23 AP - An Irish racehorse trainer has been fined E6,000 ($A9,000) for possessing steroids and other banned substances at his stables.
Philip Fenton, who has trained winners at the Cheltenham Festival, faced eight charges after veterinary inspectors found a cardboard box packed with 25 bottles and containers of animal remedies during a search of his yard in January 2012.
It included one kilogram - enough for 250 doses - of anabolic steroid Nitrotain, which builds up muscle mass, improves stamina and toughens bones.
Fenton, who did not give evidence, was found guilty at a hearing in Carrick-on-Suir District Court in County Tipperary on Thursday.
