Wine Tales has earned herself a place on trainer Chris Waller's Melbourne Cup carnival team with an against-the-odds win at Rosehill.
Sent out favourite despite easing from $2.40 to $2.70, Wine Tales put in a solid performance in the Bill Gilmour Tennis Centre Plate on Saturday.
Wine Tales will now be sent to Melbourne for a Listed race over 1400m at Flemington on Melbourne Cup day.
The three-year-old filly overcame difficulties to beat stablemate Good Project and Godolphin filly Alegria.
She was blocked for a run for much of the straight until she made the most of a late split.
"We got the gap just in time," jockey Tim Clark said.
"It was very brave of her to push through and she showed a really good turn of foot."
Waller's racing manager Liam Prior said the three-year-old could go on to bigger and better things.
"She's well deserving of a crack at a black-type race," he said.
