Injury rules Bachman out of the Derby

Bachman is a high-profile withdrawal from the Victoria Derby after hurting himself in an incident at Caulfield.

The Gerald Ryan-trained colt suffered a leg injury on the water walker on Wednesday morning, three days out from the big race.

Ryan said it appeared superficial and the colt would recover.

Bachman was a $10 chance after following his third behind Derby favourite Hampton Court in the Dulcify Quality in Sydney before a fast-finishing sixth behind Fontein Ruby in the Caulfield Classic.

The Derby field and barrier will be finalised on Wednesday afternoon.
