Chris Munce has celebrated the 16th anniversary of his Melbourne Cup win on Jezabeel with a clever victory at Doomben on Tuesday.
Munce gave his younger rivals a riding lesson when he steered Black Ninja ($4.40) to an easy win in the Novotel Brisbane Airport Hcp (2200m).
Tuesday's 2240m race was run at a muddling pace until about the 900m when Munce took off on Black Ninja and injected speed into the race.
"We couldn't have won the way the race was being run and despite him having 58kg I decided to make it a genuine staying test," Munce said.
The 45-year-old jockey still rides in interstate feature races but only travels if he is offered the mount on a genuine chance.
Meanwhile, owner Joe Rapisarda has enjoyed luck with trainer Steve O'Dea but the pair may have something special in A Day To Remember ($1.60).
The filly made it three wins from three starts when she took out the third race on the Cup day program, defying the racing pattern to come from last.
Rapisarda and O'Dea have raced some good fillies in Bianca Jewel, Miss Me Katy and Ring Me Ruby but O'Dea is excited about A Day To Remember.
"I haven't done much with her since she won at the Gold Coast as she is not highly strung. We have been taking it one step at a time but now she is a city winner and we can go from there," O'Dea said.
