Promising filly Star Drop belied her parade-ring looks when she broke her maiden status in easy fashion at Ipswich on Wednesday.
Star Drop, who had form around some of Queensland's best two-year-olds last season, was having her first run since finishing unplaced in the Listed Lancaster Stakes at Eagle Farm in May.
On her best efforts, Star Drop would have started a short-priced favourite in the Ray White Handicap (1200m) but punters took a set against because of how she presented in the mounting yard.
Star Drop eventually started at $3.80 but bolted home by four lengths in handy time.
Trainer Rex Lipp said Star Drop would make plenty of improvement from the run and would now head straight to city racing.
"She never really grew a winter coat and her coat isn't right yet. But I wasn't worried about that as she is pretty smart," Lipp said.
"Star Drop has been immature and we always knew she would be a three-year-old, not a two-year-old. But we gave her a chance at two and she did run some good races.
"After her last start Glen Boss got off and said to put her away. We had intended to do that anyway and now we will give her another two or three runs before another break."
Trainer Rob Heathcote moved back to the equal lead in the metropolitan premiership when Treatmelikealady ($2.50) won the Optus Handicap.
