With the likelihood of the fire being out of the track on Saturday, Henwood will contest the Kevin Heffernan Stakes at Sandown.
Trainer John Sadler scratched Henwood from the final event at Flemington last Saturday when the track was upgraded after the Darley Classic, the sixth race of a nine-event program.
"The track got to a Good (2) and everyone knows he enjoys a bit of cut in the ground so we decided to pull him out and wait for Sandown," Sadler said.
Henwood had a jump-out at Sandown over 800m on Tuesday morning, a gallop that pleased Sadler.
"I was really happy with him," Sadler said.
"He was here to get a nice piece of ground to gallop on.
"He's won here before, likes the place and he's had a good blow-out for Saturday with that jump-out."
Sadler has also nominated Henwood for the Sandown Stakes over 1500m but has decided the gelding will run over 1300m, at weight-for-age, in the Kevin Heffernan Stakes.
He said it was not ideal running the seven-time winner at weight-for-age.
And jumping in distance from 1000m to the 1500m of the Sandown Stakes was also not perfect.
"His best chance would be in the 1500 (metres)," Sadler said.
"But he would be going from 1000 to 1500 and I don't think he'd be quite ready for the 1500, so he'll run in the weight-for-age race.
"Even though he's not a weight-for-age horse, it's not really a weight-for-age race in that it hasn't really got any genuine weight-for-age horses."
After racing consistently during the winter and early spring, Henwood had a seven-week break from racing before reappearing at Moonee Valley on October 25, Cox Plate day, rattling home for second place over 1000m.
Henwood will be Sadler's only runner at Sandown on Saturday.
Sadler's impressive VRC Oaks Day winner Vain Queen has headed to the spelling paddock and will return in the autumn with the trainer undecided on what path she will take.
