Jamie Spencer had a smile on his face despite finishing last in the Lingfield Park Flat Jockeys Hurdle in what might have been his final appearance as a rider in Britain.
The 34-year-old former champion is due to retire at the end of the year to take up an advisory role with his bosses, Qatar Racing.
Spencer has a Cheltenham Festival victory on his CV in the 2002 Champion Bumper.
After finishing a nail-biting second on Toast Of New York at the Breeders' Cup, the Irishman rode in Australia where his best result was third in Side Glance in the Group One Caulfield Stakes.
He then returned to Britain, where he was third on Dashing Star at Doncaster in what was expected to be his final ride on turf in Britain in the November Handicap.
The jockey's travels are not over yet.
"I've got rides in Hong Kong in December and I'm in Barbados for a jockeys' challenge next week," Spencer said.
"I'm sure I'll miss it. You enjoy the big days. It's all I've done for the last 20 years and I'm sure it will be a big shock to the system.
"We'll see how it goes."
